QR codes

Download a QR code for any page or site, print it anywhere, and see how many people scan it.

Every page you publish already has a QR code waiting. Put it on a flyer, a table tent, a business card, a slide, or a product label. Scans are counted for you.

Download your page's code

  1. Open Pages in the dashboard and click the page. For a site, open Sites and click the site.
  2. On the Overview tab, find the QR code card, just under Live links.
  3. Click Download PNG for anything shown on a screen, in a document, or on a slide. Click Download SVG (for print) for anything going to a printer.

Send a printer the SVG. It stays sharp at any size, from a business card to a poster. The PNG is a fixed size that looks right on screens but goes soft if it's blown up large.

Want to scan it right now? Click the code itself and it opens large enough to scan straight off your screen.

Use a separate code for each place you print it

One code per placement is how you find out which one actually pulled.

  1. In the QR code card, type where the new one is going in the box reading Add another for a different spot, e.g. Table tent.
  2. Click Add code.
  3. Download that code and use it in that one place only.

Each code counts its own scans, shown beside it. Name codes after where they go, like "Table tent", "Business card", or "Conference badge". There's no limit on how many you add.

Your page's original code, labeled QR code, is permanent. Codes you add can be removed with Remove this code.

Removing a code kills anything already printed with it. Anyone scanning it afterwards gets a "this page has ended" screen instead of your page. Only remove a code you haven't printed yet, or one whose printed run is finished and gone.

Where the scans show up

Beside each code, and in Analytics.

Only real people are counted. A link preview generated by a chat app is not a scan.

Scans and views are different numbers, and that's normal. A scan counts when a phone reads the code. A view counts when the page actually loads. Someone who scans and changes their mind is a scan with no view.

If the page moves, or goes

Paper can't be recalled, so the code doesn't have your page's address printed into it. It points at PageSumo, and PageSumo sends each scanner wherever that page lives at that moment.

Common questions

Can I add my logo, or change the colors? No, and it's deliberate. Codes are black on white with nothing in the middle. A logo covers part of the code, so the code has to pack in more and smaller squares to survive being covered, which makes it harder to scan from a distance, at small sizes, or off cheap printing. On 500 printed cards that isn't a risk worth taking.

How big should I print it? About 2cm square, or three quarters of an inch, is the smallest that scans reliably in the hand, on something like a business card. Go bigger for anything read from further away: a table tent wants roughly 4cm, a poster considerably more. Leave clear white space around it, and don't print it on top of a busy photo.

Do I have to create a code first? No. Every published page has one the moment it goes live.

I opened a page and there's no QR code card. Publish or replace that page once and the card appears.

Can I point a code at something other than my page? No. A code belongs to the page it was made on, and always leads there.
